Persistence Makes Kings of Men (and Queens of Women)

So I recently got the question,

“What’s the one thing I’ve learned about sales that has helped me succeed?”

The answer is that Persistence makes Kings of Men and Queens of Women.

What do I mean by that?

I mean you could start out as someone who is absolutely terrible at sales…

Really have no experience, and no skill…

And just by sheer persistence…

And a willingness to learn from your mistakes, and what works and doesn’t work…

You will be able to find a way to success.

This was certainly true in my last role selling to professional negotiators.

Our sales cycle was 9 months long…

Sometimes for as small of a sale as a $5k package.

Keep in mind that we were selling to professional negotiators.

They often times didn’t have budget, and basically all these factors made it into a situation where…

It was HARD to sell.

We had seasoned sales reps come in and after 4-5 months without a deal…

…they started panicking…

And most quit.

However,

The ones who stuck it through…

The ones who stuck through the toughest moments…

The bottom of “The Dip” so to speak…

Always came out the other end successful…

Being able to close deals consistently…

And consistently able to generate revenue for the company.

THOSE reps won.

Those reps were not only persistent, but they had a drive and hunger to grow….

They studied, and learned from their mistakes.

They learned from those who were successful…

And as corny as it sounds…

Through persistence, they became successful.
