Honesty in Sales – Why It’s Your Best Option

Why Honesty is Your Best Option

YouTube video

Hey guys,

So today’s post will be a fairly short one…

I was thinking the other day while in a Conversation with someone…

How when negotiating,

Or just going about life trying to get your needs met…

Honesty is really the best approach.

I was talking to Chris at The Rhodium Weekend, which is an event for online business owners…

And was wanting to see if I could volunteer for his upcoming event…

But it also just so happened that I already had previously booked another event the same weekend…

And I knew that Chris had a couple of other applicants, and I really wanted to seal my opportunity to be a part of it…

At the same time, I had already paid for tickets, flight, and hotel for this other event…

At first,

I thought maybe if I had told him that I already had made plans for this other event….

That it would jeopardize my ability to get accepted for this one…

After a while,

I just said, “Fuck it, I’m just going to be honest”

So I hopped on the call and told Chris that,

“Hey look, I really want to volunteer for your event,

But to be completely honest and transparent…

I already had booked another event for the same weekend.

(This is before I found out about your event)

I can assure you that I DO want to come to your event…

But I just need to first cancel my flight and see if I can get a refund for the other event…

Is it okay…

If you give me 24-48 hours to just make arrangements and confirm with you then?”

Look,

The reason why I think transparency and honesty is the best way to go…

Is for a couple reasons…

        1. If you’re honest, people can tell, and they will trust you
        2. If you’re honest, and show the parts where you aren’t perfect, or where you’re product isn’t perfect, or where it’s messy…

People will understand.

Because no one is perfect.

And again… they will trust you.

                                 3. You have nothing to hide, and won’t have to worry about remembering your lies.

                                 4. The truth is the truth is the truth! You won’t ever have to go back on your word, because the truth always stays the truth!!!

And to sum up this article, I’ll borrow a famous quote from Shakespeare…

“This above all: to thine own self be true,

And it must follow, as the night the day,

Thou canst not then be false to any man.”
